We all have our own reasons for picking up an instrument. Lessons are specifically designed around each individual. There are some fundamentals which will often be explored but lessons should be engaging, motivational and fun. If you have targets in mind, we can work towards these; if you're not quite sure why you want to learn, then we will discover what is best for you as we go.
✓ Graded Exams offered
✓ All ages and abilities are welcome
✓ Learn to play your favourite tunes
✓ Detailed look into theory, technique and styles
There will be a focus on preparing drummers for real-life scenarios like playing in a band; performing live; creating drum parts; recording session skills; and tuning and maintaining a drum kit.
Graded Exams
Some like to have the focus of working through each grade as they progress, sitting either face-to-face exams or sending a video submission to obtain their certificates. With a 100% pass rate for all students I have entered in for their exams, the large majority have achieved the higher levels of Distinction and Merit.

Technique / Concepts / Theory & Sight Reading
Key skills which every musician should know. If these kind of things are a concern, then no problem as we don't need to go too heavy. However, a detailed look into your technique at the appropriate time can reap huge rewards! Learning to read drum music is made really simple and the benefits are huge.
Rhythm Section Skills
At the core of every great band is a solid rhythm section. Here we learn the essential skill of 'locking in' your grooves and fills with the bass guitar. We will play parts of songs together, focussing on timing; feel; groove; dynamics; push & pull; communicative body language; and exploring how the drums and bass provide the foundations for the rest of the band. These sessions are a whole lotta fun!

Hybrid Drumming
It is now commonplace for drummers to include modern technology into their drum setup. This includes hitting electronic pads to trigger synthetic sounds whilst playing. This opens up the possibilities for what sounds a band can produce whilst playing live. Common applications may be to trigger a string section part; sound effects like sirens, sub-drops, or hand claps for example. After using this type of setup for the past 17 years, I can show you exactly how this works; how to create the sampled sounds in the first instance; how to program the sampler to behave in the desired way; and then how to incorporate this all into your performance.
